Syracuse Man Accountable for Firearms Violations
This week’s roundup is very light, which is not unusual during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. However, even with a low number of cases, one of them is still pretty “normal” having to do with a felon in illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.
In this case, it’s about a man named Kamar L. Boatman, 36, of Syracuse, who pled guilty Dec. 29 to a charge of possessing firearms and ammunition as a felon. The charge was announced by the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York, Carla B. Freedman, and a number of state and federal law enforcement officials.
As part of the Dec. 29 guilty plea, Boatman admitted that he possessed at his residence in Syracuse at least four guns and at least 40 rounds of ammunition, all of which were recovered by the Syracuse Police Department during the execution of a search warrant on May 31, 2018. He also admitted that he was previously convicted of the felony of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, for which he was sentenced to serve four years in federal prison on May 7, 2010.
U.S. Attorney Comments on Ghislane Maxwell Guilty Verdict
On Dec. 29, the entire country was riveted by news that a unanimous jury found Ghislaine Maxwell guilty of facilitating and participating in the sexual abuse of children; crimes she committed alongside her infamous co-conspirator, Jeffrey Epstein.
The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York made a public comment in the immediate wake of the guilty verdict:
” The road to justice has been far too long. But, today, justice has been done. I want to commend the bravery of the girls – now grown women – who stepped out of the shadows and into the courtroom. Their courage and willingness to face their abuser made this case, and today’s result, possible. … This Office will always stand with victims, will always follow the facts wherever they lead, and will always fight to ensure that no one, no matter how powerful and well connected, is above the law.”
